Lil ’58

Developed in the mid 1990’s, this model, like the Evo, was revamped in 2010. The guitar borrows some elements from a memorable 1958 guitar that I repaired some years ago and has been designed around a modified ‘self tightening’ glued neck joint. An advancement of the traditional technique which greatly improves presence, responsiveness and strength. Necks are 25″ scale as standard and are typically maple, again to add a bit more attack than is usually found in guitars of this style, though other timbers and scale lengths can be used. Available in a wide range of woods and with many custom options to suit.
The Lil ’58 body on all models features a contoured back for improved comfort. Typical body woods include Alder, Swamp Ash, American Poplar, Basswood and Mahogany. The ‘Classic’ features a two or three piece body of the timber you specify, while the ‘Deluxe’ features the addition of a figured top, typically maple, though other tonewoods are available. The ‘Pro’ model takes this up another level by incorporating a fully carved top.
The Lil ’58 is built around a 25″ scale, 22 fret hard maple set neck. Other scale lengths, registers and materials are optionally available. The three aside headstock is swept back, using a scarf joint for increased strength and rigidity. A defining factor of this guitars sound and character is it’s neck joint. A development of the traditional set neck joint, it is keyed, in such a way that light vertical clamping when fitting pulls the neck extremely tightly into the body which greatly improves responsiveness. Rosewood, Ebony and Maple are the common fingerboard choices, and may be optionally bound. Options such as custom inlay work, different woods or even scalloping of the fingerboard are available, please inquire.
As standard the Lil ’58 is a fixed bridge guitar with a Gotoh 510 wrap around tailpiece. The bridge is well designed and engineered to Gotohs usually high 510 series standard. It is fully adjustable for intonation (unlike many wrap around bridges), features locking bridge posts and will not fall off with all strings removed. Other bridges, including a tremolo option are available. Tuners are as specified, again Gotoh being a firm favourite. You can specify the pickup configuration and wiring you prefer and I can advise you if needed. It is also possible to have pickups custom wound for you, please inquire.
